Swedish Vallhund

Swedish Vallhund

The Swedish Vallhund, frequently known as the Viking dog, is an extremely old breed dating back to so far as 1,000 years. Used like a cattle herding dog so that as a flexible farm dog, these dogs retain their herding instincts today. The breed is thought to become associated with the welsh corgis, even though the exact relationship has not yet been determined.

These lengthy, low-thrown dogs stand between 11.5 and 13.5 inches tall and weigh 25 to 35 pounds. The mind is wedge-formed, with upright ears and brownish eyes. Your body is lengthy, the legs are strong, and also the tail is either lengthy or perhaps a natural bobtail. The undercoat is soft and dense, as the outer coat is of medium length and harsh. Colors include grey, gray brown, gray yellow, or red brown, having a distinct harness pattern around the shoulders.

This coat needs two times weekly brushing. The coat does shed, and throughout the spring and fall, additional brushing might be needed. They are active dogs of herding heritage who require an opportunity to run and play. Although walks are wonderful possibilities for socialization, these dogs require more exercise than the usual walk can offer.

They'll enjoy an opportunity to train around the agility course or play flyball. Many have excelled in herd-ing tests. A bored Vallhund can get into trouble! This breed grows fastest on training, even though the owner is frequently challenged to maintain. Training shouldn't be repetitive and rote but rather should still add new items like advanced behavior training, trick training, and canine sports. The breed can also be careful and protective, so early socialization is essential.

The Swedish Vallhund needs the owner who'll train her and, ideally, is going to do activities together with her, ideally canine sports or herding. The breed could be noisy which may cause issues with neighbors, but training can control the woofing. The breed is nice with kids, other dogs, and more compact pets. Health issues include stylish dysplasia, eye problems, luxated pattellas, and cleft palate.
